The Health Sector of Thimphu Dzongkhag is dedicated to providing accessible, equitable, and quality healthcare services to all residents across the district, from the densely populated peri-urban areas to the remote highland gewogs. Guided by Bhutan’s national health policies and the vision of Gross National Happiness, the sector manages and supports hospitals, Basic Health Units (BHUs), outreach clinics, and community health programs to ensure that essential health services reach even the most isolated communities.

Background

Its work covers preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative care, addressing a wide range of health needs including maternal and child health, immunization, nutrition, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and mental health. Beyond service delivery, the Health Sector engages in health education and awareness campaigns to encourage healthy lifestyles and empower people to take active roles in their own wellbeing. The sector also collaborates with schools, local leaders, and other sectors to integrate health considerations into broader development initiatives.
