Chang Gewog is one of the gewogs in Thimphu Dzongkhag, located in the western part of the district surrounding the southern and eastern outskirts of Thimphu city. Unlike the highland gewogs, Chang Gewog lies at comparatively lower altitudes, with gentle hills, fertile valleys, and forested slopes. Its proximity to the capital has brought modern infrastructure and services closer to its settlements, while parts of the gewog remain semi-rural and agriculturally focused. The residents of Chang Gewog engage mainly in agriculture, horticulture, and small-scale livestock farming, producing vegetables, cereals, and dairy products to supply Thimphu’s urban market. Despite urban influences, the gewog maintains its traditional community life, lhakhangs (temples), and cultural festivals, blending the rural heritage of Bhutan with the changes brought by the city’s expansion.
