Kawang Gewog

Kawang Gewog is one of the five gewogs (blocks) under Thimphu Dzongkhag, located to the north of Thimphu Thromde (city). It stretches across scenic mountainous landscapes, including forested hills and traditional rural settlements, offering a beautiful contrast to the urban area of the capital.

Brief Background of the Gewog:

Kawang Gewog is strategically located near the capital city, sharing its southern boundary with Thimphu Thromde, while it extends northwards to border Naro Gewog. The gewog encompasses a blend of semi-urban and rural villages, and it serves as an important green buffer for Thimphu valley.

The gewog is also known for its historic and cultural sites, traditional architecture, and festivals (such as Lochoe and Lomba). Agriculture, livestock rearing, and small-scale tourism activities are the primary economic activities that support the livelihood of its residents.
