Kidu
The Kidu Sector of Thimphu Dzongkhag plays a deeply important role in upholding Bhutan’s unique tradition of compassionate governance rooted in the philosophy of Gross National Happiness. Guided by the noble vision of His Majesty The King, this sector ensures that individuals and families facing difficult circumstances receive timely and appropriate support. Its work includes identifying vulnerable groups such as the elderly, persons with disabilities, economically disadvantaged families, and individuals in need of medical or emergency assistance.
Background
Once identified, the Kidu Sector facilitates the delivery of kidu services, which may include financial aid, medical referrals, land kidu, and other welfare support, often in close coordination with the Royal Office for Kidu and relevant central agencies.
Beyond direct assistance, the Kidu Sector also works to raise awareness about available welfare schemes, encourage community responsibility, and foster a culture of care and compassion within the dzongkhag. By coordinating closely with gewog administrations, local leaders, and sector heads, the sector ensures that no one is left behind, especially in times of personal or communal hardship. Through its work, the Kidu Sector embodies the spirit of His Majesty’s vision — where governance is not only about policies and plans, but also about the wellbeing and dignity of every individual in Thimphu Dzongkhag.
